Elisa Estonia launched its mobile broadband network (HSDPA) in Tallinn and Pärnu

Elisa has launced its HSDPA network in Tallinn and Pärnu, raising the mobile Internet data communication speed up to 1 Mbit/s. Elisa has updated its entire current 3G network to HSDPA technology. Thus, the new speeds can be utilised throughout Elisa?s 3G network also in Finland. Currently, Elisa?s 3G network covers 40 towns and 10 largest ski resorts, which amounts to approximately 40% of all Finns.

  • In the context of the development of mobile communications services the most important aspect is that of increasing the data communications speeds. HSDPA enables this better than the previous technologies, says Sami Seppänen, Managing Director of Elisa Mobiilsideteenused AS, Elisa's Estonian subsidiary.
  • Elisa is the first mobile communications operator in Estonia to launch its HSDPA network also in Pärnu. We expect to have more than 3,000 network users in Estonia by the end of 2006.
  • According to Andrus Hiiepuu, Director of Elisa Estonia, all previous 2G services of Elisa will remain available also in the new HSDPA network.
  • The Vodafone Mobile Connect data communications card also enables speeds of over 1 Mbit/s. 3G offers video call services, which are priced as conventional calls during the summer period. HSDPA clearly increases the amount of content services thus making our daily lives more convenient, says Mr Hiiepuu.
Elisa launched its HSDPA network in Finland in April 2006. Elisa?s customers can use HSDPA also abroad and roam in HSDPA networks. The first of Elisa?s Vodafone co-operation partners to open their HSDPA networks are located in Germany, Portugal, Spain, Italy, the UK, Austria, South Africa, Hong Kong, France, Belgium and Croatia.
