EMT brings Messenger service to mobile phones

Alates 26. märtsist saavad EMT kliendid kasutada arvutimaailmas populaarset suhtlusteenust Microsoft Windows Live Messenger (MSN) ka mobiiltelefonidel.

Messengeri nime kandev teenus põhineb telefoni laetaval JAVA rakendusel ja on saadaval kolmes keeles – eesti, vene ja inglise. Rakenduse laeb klient EMT SurfPortist sarnaselt mängule või helinale, teenuse kasutamine on väga sarnane arvutist tuttavale rakendusele. Messenger võimaldab arvutist juba tuttavat funktsionaalsust: tekstipõhist vestlust ja emotikonide kasutamist.

„Eestis juba 370 000 kasutajat leidnud interneti suhtlusteenus on jõudnud nüüd Eesti esimese ametliku MSN-i mobiilrakendusena EMT klientideni,” ütles EMT arendus- ja tehnoloogiadirektor Tõnu Grünberg. „Pakume kasutajale ametlikku Microsofti ja EMT poolt toetatud teenust, mis lisaks legaalsusele on ka kõige soodsam viis Messengeri mobiilis kasutamiseks.”

Messengeri kasutajale on teenuse esimesed 30 päeva alates rakenduse allalaadimisest tasuta.

Andmeside maksumusega tuleb Messengeri kasutajal arvestada ainult esmasel rakenduse allalaadimisel EMT SurfPortist (kuni 6 krooni) ning teenuse kasutamisel välismaal (roamingus), kus lisandub välisoperaatori poolt kehtestatud andmesidehind.

Teenust saab kasutada algusjärgus kümnekonna telefonimudeliga ning teenust võimaldavate mudelite hulk hakkab järk-järgult suurenema. Kõik telefonimudelid sertifitseeritakse eraldi Microsofti poolt. Enamlevinud telefonimudelitest toetavad Messengeri praegu Nokia 6233, Nokia 6230i, SonyEricsson K750i jt. Koostöös Nokiaga hakatakse Messengeri seadistama ka uutesse Nokia 6233 telefonidesse.

Messengeri teenus valmis EMT koostöös TeliaSonera grupi ettevõtete ja Microsoftiga ning Eestist juhitud tehniline projekt leiab kasutamist kogu TeliaSonera grupi ettevõtetes.

From March 26th, 2007, EMT customers can use highly popular instant messaging service Microsoft Windows Live Messenger (MSN) on their mobile phones.

The Messenger service is built on downloadable JAVA platform and is available in three languages: Estonian, English and Russian. The application can be downloaded from EMT SurfPort in the same way as games and ring tones are downloaded. Mobile Messenger users can communicate live via text messages and emoticons; and in general, the mobile version of the Messenger is very similar to the one known from personal computers.

„Internet communication service, which already has 370 000 users in Estonia, has now a mobile output, as EMT customers can now use first official MSN mobile application in Estonia”, said Tõnu Grünberg, development and technology director at EMT. „We offer an official service supported by Microsoft and EMT, which is besides being completely legal, also the cheapest way to use the Messenger in mobile phones”.

Messenger service is free for the first thirty days. Afterwards a fixed fee of EEK 9 per week is applied. This is suitable for frequent Messenger users. It is also possible to get daily tickets for EEK 5 (valid for 24hrs) when it’s occasionally needed to compensate for unavailable internet connection.

Unlike with other mobile applications, there are no data service charges for using the Messenger; only one fixed fee is applied and this makes cost evaluation very clear.

Data transmission charges are applied only for downloading the Messenger application from SurfPort (one time cost of max EEK 6) and when using the service abroad (roaming, operators’ data transfer fees apply).

At present, Messenger can be used in approximately ten mobile phone models, but the number will certainly keep growing. All phone models are certified by Microsoft for the Messenger service. Currently, Messenger can be used in Nokia 6233, Nokia 6230i, SonyEricsson K750i etc. Messenger will be implemented into new Nokia 6233 models as well.

Messenger service was created in co-operation between EMT, companies from TeliaSonera group and Microsoft. Technical aspects of the product are being coordinated from Estonia and used in the whole TeliaSonera group.
