Mobile Monday: Wearable Technology

When this year's buzzword has been 'IoT' (or the Internet of Things), then next year's one is rumoured to be 'wearable tech'. As we here at MoMo are discovering the delights of wearables ourselves now that these gadgets are becoming ever more accessible, both in terms of price and their availability in Estonia, we thought to stay ahead of the fashion curve and dedicate the summer event of MoMo Tartu to precisely this topic.

Wearable tech is not a new concept, but it has come a long way since the calculator watch that was introduced back in the 1980s. Since then, the weird and wonderful implements renowned from James Bond films, such as earring-integrated receivers and microphones, have become a reality. And not only that - aside from practical applications, such as sport watches or hi-tech glasses, wearables can be created purely for aesthetical purposes too - to be worn as (digital) clothing or just appear beautiful through various integrated technology. For example, Ericsson together with London College of Fashion created a dress that would light up when a call was received (using bluetooth technology). All in all - we are hoping to see a lot more happening in this field in Estonian start-ups also, especially now that BuildIt has started up a creative industries programme alongside its hardware accelerator in Tartu.

We'll meet up on 27th of July at 18:00 at Antoniuse Õu, Tartu (note location!!). As always, the event will feature various speakers from both start-ups and established companies, with a surprise thrown in! So make sure you come by and be one of the first ones to know about what to wear in the future.

As per the established tradition, the event will be held in English and is free to attend (registrations is mandatory, though!).
